Bludenz - the Alpine City
Four countries, five valleys, three mountain ranges--the city of Bludenz bridges them all. This alpine city lies at the center of a region in which nature and culture go hand in hand.
High mountains stand directly at the city gate, from which the Klostertal valley stretches to the world-famous Arlberg, the cradle of alpine skiing. Further south, the Montafon valley intersects with the Silvretta and her impressive 3,000 meters. The Brandnertal valley, with the glacier-crowned Scesaplana peak, offers arguably the most beautiful cirque of the Eastern Alps. Opposite this lies the expansive, pristine beauty of the Walsertal. Hardly any other alpine city brings together such diverse landscapes as Bludenz.
And in the city's historical Old Town, northern alpine character comes together with a pinch of the south. Old walls and gates, historical houses, meandering alleyways, and romantic arcades all converge to create a cohesive unity. Restricted to pedestrians, the Old Town allows one to stroll freely along its lanes, over which loom two distinct structures: the baroque Gayenhofen Castle and St. Laurentius Church, whose far visible onion dome stands as the symbol of Bludenz.
As for leisure sports... The possibilities in this alpine city are evident: swimming, hiking, indoor and outdoor tennis, or simply relaxing in the pools and saunas of the magnificiently located VAL BLU resort. And of course, in winter Bludenz transforms itself into the "Ski Station" of Vorarlberg, providing 10 ski areas and a total of 250 lifts all within a mere 30-minute drive of the city.
